I write about science and technology since 1997, for mainly Dutch outlets such as NRC Handelsblad/Next, Intermediair, Kijk, New Scientist, De Standaard, Chemisch2Weekblad, Onze Taal, Technisch Weekblad, en De Ingenieur. I have also written for Science and the British New Scientist.
I like to write about spaceflight, astronomy, technology, physics, natural phenomena, science as a human enterprise, and about languages and linguistics.
From 1999 to 2003, I was science editor at the Leiden University Magazine Mare. From 2008 through 2011, I was the science editor for the weekly Intermediair. From 2019 to 2021, I was Outreach Officer at the Physics Institute at Leiden University.
Through these years, I have always also worked as a freelancer, In 2012, I started making animations about science. I continue to do this together with illustrator, animator and science journalist Sija van den Beukel in our animation studio Animated Science.
I graduated in Physics at Groningen University, then I did the Postdoctorale Opleiding Journalistiek (PDOJ), a journalism postdoctoral at Erasmus University in Rotterdam.
I like to run, play basketball, go hiking or sailing, and to play guitar.
